Local Audubon Society   

 

Buena Vista Audubon Society (BVAS) has its headquarters at the Nature Center located at 2202 South Coast Highway in Oceanside, phone 760-439-2473.  Their list of bird walks and activities can be viewed in the monthy issue of the Lagoon Flyer at: www.bvaudubon.org.

 

BVAS conducts a bird walk each month on the second Sunday at 8:00am to a local area.  A docent from BVAS conducts a bird walk on the first Saturday of each month at Whelan Lake Bird Sanctuary at 8:00am.  Whelan Lake is located at 3650 North River Road in Oceanside.  Birders can enter the property that day without calling ahead.  Birders can bird at Whelan Lake on their own on any day be calling a day in advance to Greg Stewart, Caretaker, at 760-722-4887, so he can open the gate.

San Diego Botanic Gardens (formerly Quail Gardens), 230 Quail Gardens Dr., Encinitas.  Bird walks are held on the first Monday of each month. Birders from nearby towns meet at 8:00am in the SDBG parking lot for docent led walk.

 

Palomar Audubon Society.  There is a bird walk every Saturday of each month. The walks are longer in duration.

Aqua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center, 1580 Cannon Rd., Carlsbad. Bird walk on the second Saturday of every month at 9:00am
